Activitiy Permits

The role that Section Leaders play in delivering the adventurous activities programme is absolutely key. As a County Activities team, we are committed to helping leaders deliver exciting, challenging and safe adventurous activities to members of their section.

Key to this process is the Adventurous Activities Authorisation Scheme run by The Scout Association nationally. In the simplest terms, this scheme provides you with a permit, recognised throughout Scouting, showing you have achieved the required standard to lead an adventurous activity.

Through our team of County Assessors, we can provide verification of existing skills and identify training requirements in order to achieve these permits. Beginning in 2008 we have challenged ourselves to make training and assessments easily available to the greatest possible number of leaders and run a number of County led authorisation courses.

Where we don’t have the skills within the County to provide the appropriate authorisation and training, we will help you identify an assessor from another County or someone with the appropriate National Governing Body (NGB) award to verify your skills.

The process for gaining a permit is as below:

1. Identify which permit you require and that you meet all the requirements using the details available at http://www.scouts.org.uk/activitypermits

2. Fill in the application form also on the site above and send to County Office

3. County office will then assign an assesor to your application

4. Your assessor will then decide how to proceed with assessment. It may be as simple as just having a chat and verifying qualifications, or maybe they will need to spend some time with you demonstrating your skills.

5. Once 4 is complete, a relevant commissioner will sign the rest of the sections and County Office will issue you a permit.

The process of gaining permits cannot be guaranteed in a certain time. Please apply for a permit at least a month before you will need it.
