Learn more about how you can add the Hertfordshire Scouts motorglider air experience days to your programme.

Over the past few years, many Scout Troops and Explorer Units have taken the opportunity to go gliding with Faulkes Flying Foundation. Sadly this has now come to an end ? but the great news is that Hertfordshire County Scouts have purchased one of the motorgliders and we can continue to offer this opportunity. The even better news is that it?s even cheaper than before.

Flying will now take place at the Cambridge Gliding Centre, about 8 miles north of Royston.
Cost is £30 for a day in which it is possible to achieve the Scout Aeronautics Badge. This includes all of the briefings, ground training and instruction and a flight of approximately 20 minutes. Over a series of days, it is also possible to cover the requirements for the Explorer Air Activities Badge and the Scout and Explorer staged Aviation Skills Badges. If required, a member of the Gliding Team can come to your meeting with a short presentation and talk about what an air experience day will include.

A maximum of ten Scouts or Explorers can be flown at each session. Anyone can fly who is over ten years old and under 100 kilos. To book your day just check the Gliding Calendar for availability then fill in the booking form.

It is shortly hoped to have a web-based booking system up and running. In the meantime you can get some information on Cambridge Gliding Centre from their website.

Plans for the future include weekend camp programmes - Cambridge has an area for camping and now has indoor accommodation and showers which were new in 2006.

We need a team of interested adults to develop these programmes - and to help run the ground supervision on flying days. If you, your assistants and helpers, parents, or anyone over 16 are interested in doing this then please contact me.
