The IMC is a week long course held at Lochearnhead Scout Station, Hertfordshire Scouts Activity Centre in the Central Highlands of Scotland.? The course is open to those who are 13? or above (including adults).? No hill walking experience is required prior to the course, although it would prove very beneficial if you have some map reading and basic navigation skills.? The course takes place over the Easter period where the weather can be very variable and may be anything from cold and snowy, wet or even sunny and hot.? Applicants need to be prepared to go out in the hills whatever the conditions.? The week is a lot of fun and we make sure that there is the right balance between enjoying the mountain enviroment as well as providing a learning experience.?
Trainees will be placed in parties with others of similar age and experience, which allows us to concentrate on skills and experiences relevant to each individual.
The course starts with 3 full days on the hill, during which instruction is given and practical experience is gained.?? Following this you will head into the hills on a three day expedition where you will apply your new skills and learn how to survive in a tent .? The content will cover planning/safety, navigation and winter wild country camping.?? Snow permitting we will practise the use of ice axes? The course is very practical in nature so you will develop your existing skills and practice your new ones.
The course is fully catered and we provide all the specialist gear needed.? You will need to provide your own personal kit.? Once your application has been received you will receive an information pack containing a kit list and the course objectives.?
