General Information

Harmergreen Wood is a 44-acre site that features ancient woodland in addition to cleared glades for camping.

The main strength of this site is that it is ‘back to basics’ at its best. You can use the woodland for camping, survival, backwoods skills, bivouacking and also for basic woodcraft.

'Stag Cottage' is a available - it sleeps 18 in three bunk rooms, has a fitted kitchen and large hall for dining or activities (or additional sleeping).

The site has basic toilet and water facilities. New for 2012 - we now have lights in our toilet block
Electricity is available within Stag Cottage only. New for 2012 - we now have improved power & heating in Stag Cottage

As well as Scouting & Guiding use, the site is also ideal for Duke of Edinburgh award training, schools and corporate events .

There are no activities provided on site, as the woodland forms the basis for creating your own adventures. The back-to-basics nature of the site provides great opportunities for cooking over a wood fire, sitting round a campfire in the evening – regardless of the weather! – or sleeping under the stars. Ultimately, these things give Harmergreen its uniqueness and attraction.
New for 2012 - we now have an Orienteering Course set-up in the Woodland.  You can download the Orienteering maps below, or ask the Duty Warden for them at a cost of 10p per map.

Harmergreen Wood is located within walking distance of Welwyn North train station and is about one mile from the A1, which make trips to surrounding areas and London quick and easy.
