The history of Scouting in Hertfordshire can be traced from the first meeting of Percy Everett with Baden-Powell in 1906 and their discussions of how he could help B-P plan the introduction of Scouting into the UK. Percy Everett, attended the Brownsea Island experimental camp in 1907 and was publicly acclaimed by B-P as "my right hand man" and remained so until the death of B-P in 1941. Percy Everett was knighted in 1930 for his services to Scouting and was County Commissioner of Hertfordshire from 1908 until 1944. As County Archivist, main role is to manage and display items of interest in the County Scout Museum and to provide a support service to Groups and Districts who need help in tracing their history. You will see from "Headlines" and the excerpts elsewhere in this section, I am also working on a project titled "Milestones of 100 years of Hertfordshire Scouting". As we look forward to the centenary of Hertfordshire Scouting in 2008 I am helping some Groups with the organisation of their centenary celebrations. These number under ten and Groups should be very sure of their facts before making this claim. If you need help, please do not hesitate to ask and I will be pleased to give support and guidance.
