This is an historic month.? On 21 October 1911 the first ever meeting of the County Executive took place at 33 Hatfield Road in St Albans.? It is at this meeting that Policy matters of the County are discussed and action taken that affects all areas of Scouting in the County.? The meeting is still held several times a year and representatives from all Districts are co-opted members.?
The next day but in 1949, the first Harpenden Gang Show took place, in spite of a disastrous dress rehearsal the night before.? The main organisers Dennis Chappin SM and Gerry Williamson GSM of the Third Group, Roland Swallow the pianist and Eric Thair the Producer, got together to discuss pulling the show and giving the audience its money back.? Fortunately they went ahead and the show has an unbroken record of success with their sixtieth performance-taking place in 2009.
