Hertfordshire Scouts & Guides Kayaks & open canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids, spray decks, helmets, and two trailers are available for hire by groups.
They are stored in the Sailing Centre compound at Fairlands Valley Park, off Six Hills Way, Stevenage. Trailers will be at Stanborough in June & July 2008 as the main sailing lake at Fairlands is drained for dam repair work. Hiring charges for a single seat kayak with equipment are: Evening or half day £2.00, Day £4.00, Week £15. Open canoes are charged at double these rates. A deposit of £10 per hiring is required. Cheques are payable to Herts Scouts Canoeing Section. Bookings will not be accepted unless the form and deposit are received.
We also offer a package deal of a half day or evening session of canoeing at Fairlands or Stanborough, which includes use of boats & equipment, instruction & launch fee for the all inclusive sum of £6.00 per boat,. Please contact the Advisers if you wish to arrange a session.
If 6 or more kayaks are hired, the trailer is included at no extra charge. However, a deposit of £25 is required for the trailer board hitchlock and wheel clamp to each trailer. Please note that it is a condition of the insurers that the trailer is immobilised at all times and that the kayaks are secured using the wire provided when not in use. The hitchlock key and instructions will be made available. Equipment must be treated with care. Fair wear and tear are acceptable, but damage or breakages, however caused, must be reported and may be charged for. In the event of an accident involving personal injury or damage to a third party, the Scout / Guide Canoeing Adviser must be informed immediately. ( The driver of the tow vehicle is responsible for ensuring the load is secure)
It is the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that the person in charge of a group on the water is qualified for the activity under Scout / Guide rules and to ensure compliance with all relevant rules. If in any doubt, and for further advice please consult the County Canoe Advisers as appropriate:
