Explorer Scouts from Potters Bar and other parts of Hertfordshire gathered at County Hall, Hertford with other young finalists from the region to receive a cheque from Lionel Wallace, Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire at a ceremony attended by mayors and leaders of industry from all parts of the county.

61 Hertfordshire Explorer Scouts and their leaders went to Northern Swaziland in 2009 to give aid to the Thirst for Life project in a remote valley and to give support to a number of HIV/AIDS orphanages in remote communities.? As part of this support, the Scouts collected clothes, toys, bicycles, books, shoes and computers to fill a 40-foot container which was shipped out to the TFL Centre and now doubles as a weatherproof building alongside the two rest houses built by Hertfordshire Scouts during their stay.? The Scouts would like to thank the people of Hertfordshire for their great generosity in helping to fill the container.?

Hertfordshire Scouts will be returning to Swaziland in 2011 to further their work on helping the families in the valley produce honey, develop chicken farming and egg production and enlarge the market gardening opportunities.? Any individuals, organisations or companies who wish to be associated with this work should get in touch with Charles Dace, District Commissioner of Potters Bar by calling 01707 657338.
