WSJ2019 – Unit 51

Swans and Stags – combined Unit with Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire Scouts

June 2018 – My initial experience of the Jamboree journey was the selection day. At first, I was really nervous because there were several people there I didn’t know. As the day went on I found out more and more about the Jamboree and the people around me. By the end of the day I was happy, and excited to find out who had been selected. I didn’t find out for a good 5 weeks but I checked my emails every day because I was so excited. When I finally found out that I had made it, I was so
happy and I couldn’t wait to start fundraising.

Our first Unit meeting was great fun, although I didn’t really get to know anyone that well as I was only there for the second day, making it harder for me to introduce myself. Fortunately, everybody was very kind and I felt pleased to be accepted into such an amazing group of like-minded people.

From that first meeting I gained a lot of knowledge of what others had planned for their fundraising and I even borrowed a couple of ideas from their fundraising so far! I then spent a long time planning a World Wide Quiz Night for my Scouts and raised £1400 from the evening! We had another Unit meeting which was great fun and during that meeting I started to get to know the people much better. So far, my Jamboree experience has been great and I can’t wait to go to West Virginia in 2019. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I’m sure it will be the best trip ever!
