Dates: 27th December 2017 – 2nd January 2018
Advanced Mountaineering Course 2017
The AMC is a 5 day long course held at Lochearnhead Scout Station, Hertfordshire Scouts Activity Centre in the Central Highlands of Scotland. The course is open to those who are 16+ with relevant hill walking experience, eg a recommendation from an IMC or personal experience covering route planning, safety, wild country camping and navigation. Applicants will need to be able to look after themselves and to have a good level of personal fitness to cope with the potentially adverse weather conditions. The course takes place over the New Year period which can mean very cold through to very wet weather and thus involves a strong element of self-reliance and survival! The week is also a lot of fun and we don’t forget to celebrate the New Year.
The course consists of 5 full days on the hill, during which instruction is given and practical experience is gained. The content will cover planning/safety, navigation and winter wild country camping. Specific winter skills such as the use of ice axes and crampons and avalanche awareness will also be covered, the practical content of these will however, depend on the exact weather and snow conditions prevailing. The course is very practical in nature so you will develop your existing skills and practice your new ones.
We will travel during the day of 27th Dec 2017 and return during the day of 2nd Jan 2018. The course is fully catered and we provide all the specialist gear needed. You will need to provide your own personal kit. Once your application has been received you will receive an information pack containing a kit list and the course objectives.
The cost will be £265 inclusive of travel, accommodation and food. To book you place please return the application form together with a £75 non-returnable deposit. Closing date for applications is 2nd December 2017. If you want to discuss the course please ring me on the number below.
